I'm not sure, but unfortunately that person is right. Well, in a sense. It's an old game - preying on women that have low self esteem. Also, there's a control dimension to it as well, which probably also feeds into self esteem - I think some women feel if they're supporting a man, he is less likely to leave them. But that doesn't bear out in reality. I just read a while ago that women who make more money than men are surprisingly more likely to do a greater share of housework (possibly to bolster his feeling of manhood), but the man is more likely to cheat on her (probably for the same reason).
